As is true with every preacher, at times we are unable to elaborate on every point or comment made. I figured the text yesterday from Eccleasties 12:14 would “raise a few eyebrows.” The verse says that God will bring every deed into judgment. . .” What does this mean? The verse is translated slightly different in various translations as the chart below demonstrates.

For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.

Ec 12:14

For God will evaluate every deed, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Here are some questions I will pose for you to think about and we can discuss:

1. Is this a blanket statement that every believer will give an account for “every deed?” Is there a difference for unbelievers?

2. What about Mt 12:36 where Jesus says “every idle word” will be judged?

How can we answer questions such as these? Looking forward to your responses!!

Join us as we begin…

Courageous Living: Dare to Take a Stand

Because it is important to take a faithful, fearless stand in so many areas of life, Courageous Living sheds new light on characters in the Bible who displayed great courage when it would have been easier to play it safe. They challenge and inspire us still now to keep moving forward, to examine our priorities, and to deal with anything that brings fear to our hearts. In this study, we will catch a new wind of bravery in the bold accounts of Abraham (“The Courage to Get Going”), Nehemiah (“The Courage to Face Criticism”), and Ruth (“The Courage to Face an Uncertain Future”). Through the stirring stories of Moses, Elijah, Joshua, Daniel, Gideon, Nehemiah, Stephen, Paul, and Timothy, you will be inspired to have the courage to “Choose and Refuse”, “Lead on All Levels”, “Be a Humble Hero”, “Face Persecution”, “Make Up Your Mind” and more.

James’ letter is a stark reminder that “the wisdom of God is not the wisdom of man.” James reminds us that God uses problems (i.e. struggles) in a believers life for the purpose of maturity and growth. Burdens and trials are permitted in our lives to make us stronger and keep us humble. James instructs us on what to do when we face trials. We are to ask the Lord to help us see our situation from His perspective. If we “lack wisdom” (that is if we don’t really understand why God allows us to struggle in order to mature us) we are to “ask in faith” and we will receive an affirmation from the Lord that the trial is intended to make us stronger.

I want you to know this principle is so true in life. Every Christian soon realizes that “a little rain falls on us all.” We each face our own problems, our own struggles, but as believers in Christ we can rest assured they have a divine purpose. Not one problem slips through the Father’s fingers without a reason. Do you know what the purpose is? I’ll tell you, they are intended to make you more like your Lord.

Do you know how Jesus endured trouble and suffering? Listen to the writer of Hebrews in chapter 12:2:

He said we are to be “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Notice that he said, “for the joy set before Him.” Joy, what joy? How can a cross and suffering be joy? Can you answer this?

Our current series on the Seven Spiritual Principles is designed to address major areas of the Christian life which impact our relationship with God and our effectiveness for Him. Without a proper understanding of who God is and how we relate to Him, the Christian life is lived without purpose or meaning.

Here are the principles:

God is God and we are not.

God does not need us, but we desperately need Him.

What God demands, He supplies.

What you seek, you find.

Active faith releases God’s power.

There is no growth without struggle.

What God starts He finishes.

Which one of the seven has impacted your life the most? How?
